DSR Asia, CTS, and Iwata Chizaki Construction Launch AI-Powered River Monitoring Pilot Featuring Noema Technology

DSR Asia, CTS, and Iwata Chizaki Construction Launch AI-Powered River Monitoring Pilot Featuring Noema Technology

The pilot combines Noema's AI-powered flood detection technology, AXIS network cameras, and CTS's IoT SmartHub platform to evaluate remote river monitoring and automated safety alerts.

DSR Asia is collaborating with CTS Corporation and Iwata Chizaki Construction on a pilot project at a river embankment construction site in Japan's Kanto region. With sudden rises in river water levels posing significant risks to construction workers, the project will test the system's performance under real-world conditions, including varying weather, lighting, and camera configurations. The pilot will also evaluate solar-powered operation and 4G LTE connectivity for monitoring locations without conventional power infrastructure.

Noema's Role in AI-Powered River Monitoring

The solution incorporates Noema Flood Monitor, an AI-powered flood detection application developed by Noema, subsidiary of DSR Corporation.

Using AXIS network cameras, Noema's edge AI technology analyzes visual data directly on the camera to detect changes in water levels while reducing communication demands. The resulting data is transmitted to CTS's IoT SmartHub platform, which evaluates predefined thresholds and sends automated notifications to site administrators when water levels exceed specified limits.

The pilot will assess detection performance across different camera configurations, installation positions, lighting conditions, and weather conditions, including nighttime and rainfall.

The system also combines solar panels, battery storage, and 4G LTE connectivity to enable remote monitoring in riverside locations without conventional power infrastructure.

Advancing AI-Powered Safety Monitoring

Sudden increases in river water levels can pose significant risks to construction workers, particularly during heavy rainfall and severe weather.

Through this pilot, DSR Asia, CTS, and Iwata Chizaki Construction will evaluate the technology's performance in real-world conditions and explore opportunities for broader applications beyond river construction sites, including road flooding detection and urban flood prediction.

The project highlights the potential of Noema's computer vision and edge AI technology to support automated monitoring and improve safety across construction and infrastructure environments.
